history
First mention
Küps was first mentioned in a deed of gift from the Lord of Chubece to the Bishop of Bamberg on July 8, 1151.
20th century
Most of the Second World War Küps survived largely unscathed, as the place was not one of the main targets of the Allies due to the lack of important industrial facilities . A few weeks before the end of the war in Europe, Küps was captured and occupied on April 12, 1945 by the 11th US Armored Division of the 3rd US Army under General Patton , advancing eastwards . Since the American troops were attacked by units of the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS stationed in Küps , the anti-tank barriers had not been cleared and no white flags had been hoisted, the place was bombarded with artillery for several hours before the US soldiers marched in . Over 100 buildings, including 36 residential buildings, were seriously damaged or destroyed.
Incorporations
On April 1, 1971, the previously independent municipality of Tüschnitz was incorporated. Hain was added on January 1, 1972. Au followed on January 1, 1976, Burkersdorf on January 1, 1977. The series of incorporations was completed on May 1, 1978 with the incorporation of the communities Johannisthal, Oberlangenstadt, Schmölz and Theisenort.
Population development
In the period from 1988 to 2018, the market grew from 7,064 to 7,823 by 759 inhabitants or by 10.7%, which is the highest percentage growth in the district in the period mentioned.
