Franz Ludwig Veit Karl Joseph Bernhard Freiherr von Redwitz auf Schmölz and Theisenort (born August 10, 1779 at Schmölz Castle , Markt Küps , Upper Franconia ; † April 18, 1848 in Speyer ) was a Bavarian nobleman and civil servant.

Live and act

Ludwig Freiherr von Redwitz came from the formerly imperial Frankish noble family von Redwitz .

He entered the Bavarian civil service, became a lieutenant in the gendarmerie and held the post of prison director at the Lichtenau fortress near Ansbach . Since 1815 married to Maria Anna geb. Miller (1786–1854), the niece of the poet Johann Martin Miller , had his son Oskar von Redwitz born here on June 28, 1823 , who later also became famous as a poet. In 1825 Ludwig von Redwitz moved to Kaiserslautern in the Bavarian Rhine District and became inspector of the local prison.

At his own request, Redwitz was transferred in 1829 as an adjunct to the newly established customs office in Speyer , after 5 years he came to the Bavarian-French border town of Schweigen as a customs inspector, and in 1837 to Zweibrücken in the same capacity . He finally returned here as chief customs inspector and head of the Speyer customs office and died there in 1848.

Freiherr von Redwitz was buried in the Catholic part of the old Speyer cemetery, which today is largely overbuilt by the Bernhardskirche . His qualitative tombstone is currently (2012) on the cathedral chapter cemetery there. It bears a resurrection scene on the front and the personal data and the family crest on the back (albeit difficult to read).
