Plouay is a French municipality with 5670 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It is located about 15 kilometers north of Lorient , belongs to the canton of Guidel (until 2015: canton of Plouay ) in the arrondissement of Lorient . Twin town in Germany is Küps .

Plouay is known far beyond France as a stronghold of cycling . The Grand Prix Ouest France , a one-day race of the UCI ProTour, has been held here since 1931 . In addition, Plouay hosted the UCI Road World Championships in 2000 and the Tour de France in 1998 and 2002.
