Landaul ( bret. : Landaol ) is a French municipality with 2298 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Lorient and the canton of Pluvigner .

geography

Landaul lies in the interior of the Morbihan department. In the north the Demiville stream forms the municipal boundary, in the south the Tréavrec stream. The small town of Auray is only around twelve kilometers to the south-east.

history

The Landaul parish is first mentioned around 1400. Today's municipality originally belonged to the two lordships of Kerambourg (also Keremboulch) and Kerambartz (also Kerambarh). The reign of Kerambourg later passed to the Malestroit family from Kaër, who made it a duchy in 1552. Both lords came to the Robien family in modern times (17th / 18th century).

In 1944 the German Wehrmacht executed six young men from the Landaul community who were close to the Resistance.

Population development

Between 1793 and 1861 the population remained more or less stable at around 900 people. It then rose slightly between 1872 and 1906, and remained at a value of 1,100 residents for decades. It fell slightly between 1946 and 1962. Since then, the number of residents has grown and has more than doubled. The development:
