Ploemel is a French commune with 2,888 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany .
geography
The municipality is located in the southwest of the department between the agglomerations of Lorient and Vannes , about five kilometers west of the city of Auray .
Ploemel borders in the north-west and north on the municipality of Locoal-Mendon , in the north-east on Brech , in the east on Crach , in the south on Carnac and in the west on Erdeven .
history

The D22 crosses the northern part of the municipality from Auray in the east to Belz in the west. From the D22, the D105 branches off in the east of the municipality, which connects the town of Ploemel to the south from the direction of Auray and continues west to Erdeven . The D119 forms the north-south connection from Locoal-Mendon to Carnac and crosses the D105 in Ploemel. The D186 reaches the community center of Belz from the north-west and continues south-east to La Trinité-sur-Mer .
The busy D768 from Auray to Quiberon touches the southeast of the municipality .
There are bus connections (Monday to Saturday) to Auray and Belz - Lorient . The nearest long-distance train station is in Auray and the nearest airport is Lorient Bretagne Sud .
Ploemel is located on the railway line Auray-Quiberon , the passenger only during the summer season under the name of Tire-bouchon from the TER Brittany is busy. The Belz-Ploemel train station in the center of Ploemel will then be served daily and all day in July and August (as of summer 2013).
