TER Bretagne network

The TER Bretagne is a regional railroad network, the four departments Cotes-d'Armor (22) Finistère (29), et-Ille-Vilaine (35) and Morbihan (56) within the region Bretagne operated. Fougères is only connected from Laval , Pays de la Loire through their regional TER. In total, there is a route network of 1,190 kilometers. TER Bretagne is one of 22 TER associations in France. The regional company operates 137 train stations. With an area of ​​around 27,200 km², each train station has to serve 199 km² on average, a figure that is slightly below average in France.

The TER is a joint venture between the regional administration and the French State Railways (SNCF) . They provide the transport services in passenger transport by rail and in buses, decide on the tariff structure and are responsible for the frequency and capacity measurement.

The railway lines available in Brittany run via Rennes at a distance of 20 to 60 kilometers along the entire coast and then continue south to Nantes . Numerous branch lines branch off from this "trunk line" both in the direction of the coast and inland. The routes are divided into 28 line sections. Links are also established using the eleven bus lines operated by the TER.

Vehicle fleet

This service has been offered in the region since 2002. In 2007, an average of 17,000 passengers used one of the 260 trains provided daily, and in 2011 28,300 passengers used 300 trains. According to the company, 85 percent of the trains should be replaced or completely refurbished by 2010. The investments that have already been made in local transport are immense:

  • 100 million euros for 23 “ Autorails grande capacité électrique ( ZGC )”. It has been in use since spring 2007; the commissioning was completed in 2009. They travel at top speeds of 160 kilometers per hour and can thus connect the metropolises in northwestern France with one another at half-hour intervals. They can be found on the Rennes - Saint-Malo , Rennes- Saint-Brieuc and Rennes- Redon main roads , and since September 2008 also on the Brest - Landerneau and Brest- Morlaix route .
  • 92 million euros for 17 “Automotrices électriques à grande vitesse (ZTER)”; they replaced old Corail and USI cars (since 2004) and run at speeds of up to 220 km / h. They operate on the routes Rennes-Brest, Rennes- Quimper , Rennes- Nantes and Quimper-Nantes.
  • 22 million euros for 15 “ X 73500 ”, the so-called “little brother of the TGV”, which have been on the Brest – Quimper, Brest – Morlaix , MorlaixRoscoff routes since 2000 .
  • 5 million euros for 5 renovated “Rames réversibles régionales” (RRR). They operate in star traffic around Rennes and on the Rennes – Saint-Malo route.
  • 1.7 million euros for 5 two-part electric railcars of the type Z2 (Z 9600) , which were also completely renovated (2004–2007) and can be found on all electrically operated routes in Brittany.

Between 1998 and 2004 the region has already invested 142 million euros in the vehicle fleet; 77 million euros had been added by 2010. According to other information, investments of around 250 million euros in the period from 2003 to 2009.
