Pluvigner ( Pleuwigner in Breton ) is a French municipality with 7543 inhabitants (1 January 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lorient and is the main town (chief lieu) of the canton of Pluvigner .
geography
Pluvigner is located in a wooded area on the western edge of the Landes de Lanvaux . To the north of the municipality are the Forêt de Camors and the Forêt de Floranges ; a total of around 17% of the almost 83 km² Pluvigner area is forested. The area is a hilly landscape rising from southwest to northeast, the highest point of which is Le Soucho , which reaches up to 144 m above sea level . The place is eleven kilometers north of Auray and 16 kilometers south of Baud on the route Départementale D 768. Pluvigner had a railway connection on the Auray – Pontivy railway ; this was abandoned in 1951 for passenger traffic, and in 1981 the station building was also torn down.
Neighboring municipalities are (clockwise, starting in the southeast) Brech , Landaul , Landévant , Camors and Brandivy .

In addition to agricultural and forestry operations, there are two major commercial employers: Hill-Rom , a manufacturer of hospital supplies (beds, hospital furniture) with several hundred employees, and Bretagne Chrome .

In and around Pluvigner, especially in Talhouët , you can find ancient dolmen burial mounds (tumuli) , steles and tombs, as well as a large number of chapels from the 15th to 17th centuries, as well as three castles from the 16th to 18th centuries, the Châteaux from Kerlois, Keronic and Rimaison. Saint-Guigner is a 16th century church with a large wall fountain.
In the summer the municipality hosts night markets and in mid-August a Breton festival (fest-noz) .
Sports
There are clubs for rugby (Pluvigner RC) , volleyball (CO Pluvigner) and football (AS Pluvigner and Keriolets de Pluvigner) , whose first teams currently (early 2011) only compete in the lower regional leagues. The men of the Keriolets, who were then playing in the seventh-highest league, managed to advance to the national main round in the 2006 French soccer cup .
