The Scorff River in Pont-Scorff |
Pont-Scorff ( bret. : Pont-Scorf ) is a commune with 3,744 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Morbihan department in the region of Brittany . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Lorient and the canton of Guidel .
geography
Pont-Scorff is located in the southwest of the Morbihan department on the Scorff River . The village is located about ten kilometers north of the city of Lorient.
history
Finds show the presence of humans in pre-Christian times. An oppidum existed during Roman rule. From the 6th to the 13th centuries it was part of the extensive rule of Kemenet Héboé . After that, the Templars took over what is now the municipality. In 1675 the citizens took part in the revolt against the paper tax . Until the time of the French Revolution, the community belonged to the Haut Pont-Scorff domain. In 1899 the community was connected to the railway network and in 1900 received its own train station. In 1948 the operation of the railway on this route was stopped again.
Population development
Until 1975 the population remained more or less stable with minor deviations in individual census years. This is in contrast to many other Breton communities. Since 1975, the number of residents has risen sharply due to the proximity to Lorient (1975-2012: + 94%). The development:
