Kervignac is a French municipality with 6596 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany .

geography

The municipality is located in the southwest of the department east of the agglomeration of Lorient .

Kervignac borders the municipalities of Hennebont and Languidic to the north, Brandérion and Nostang to the east, Merlevenez to the south, Locmiquélic to the extreme southwest and the Blavet to the west , via which it is connected to Lanester by the Pont du Bonhomme . The eponymous place Kervignac is located in the middle of the municipality.

history

From prehistoric times there are individual dolmens in the area of ​​the municipality . The Celts also left relics in Kervignac. In the north of the municipality, the Roman road runs from Vannes to Quimper . In the 6th century AD, a parish in the area of ​​the municipality is first mentioned under the name Plebs Veneaca . The place name changes from Plou Vénéac and Chervenac to Kerveniac in 1280 and finally to today's Kervignac . The municipality of Kervignac was founded in 1790 as the capital of a canton with Merlevenez , Sainte-Hélène and Nostang . In 1801, however, this is part of the canton of Port-Louis .

The cable-stayed bridge Pont du Bonhomme over the Blavet from 1900–1904 was replaced in 1974 by a new building. The two 37 meter high pylons of the old bridge have been preserved.

Since the 1980s, Kervignac has seen a significant increase in population with a doubling of the population from approx. 3000 to approx. 6000.

The D194 connects Kervignac over the Pont de Bonhomme with Lanester and the agglomeration of Lorient west of the Blavet . The D9 provides the north connection to Hennebont and the south connection with the neighboring communities of the Ria d'Étel . The D781 crosses the west of the municipality and connects the places east of the Blavet with each other. The north of Kervignac cuts through the N165 ( Brest - Nantes ) expressway , the access to the N165 is via the D781 in the neighboring municipality of Hennebont. In the municipality, the N24 expressway branches off from the N165 to Rennes . The first slip road to the N 24 is on the D765 from Hennebont to Brandérion, which also crosses north of Kervignac .

There are bus connections (Monday to Saturday) to Lanester - Lorient and Belz - Étel . The next regional train stations are in Hennebont and Brandérion, with long-distance connections in Lorient and Auray . The closest airport is Lorient Bretagne Sud .
