history

The place has been inhabited since the Middle Ages. Historically, Quistinic is part of the Breton region of Pays Vannetais (Breton: Bro Gwened ). After the French Revolution it was a battle zone between Republican troops and the Chouans. Politically, Quistinic became a municipality in 1790. From 1793 Quistinic belonged to the canton of Bubry and the district of Hennebont. From 1801 it was part of the Lorient arrondissement and from 1801 to 2015 a municipality in the canton of Plouay . In July 1944 it was the site of a persecution by the German military police against the Maquis. A total of 24 resistance fighters or helpers, including three police officers and four women, were killed.

Population development

Between 1793 and 1821 the population decreased. Then it rose sharply until 1851. A second wave of emigration followed until 1872. Between 1872 and 1931 there was a significant increase in population (1872–1931: + 16%). Then the rural exodus began in the nearby cities of Auray and Vannes. By the low point in 1999, Quistinic lost half of its residents. In the last few years there has been tentative growth. The development:
