Nostang is a French commune with 1,545 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany .

geography

The municipality is located in the southwest of the department about ten kilometers east of the agglomeration of Lorient on the Ria d'Étel .

Nostang borders the communes of Brandérion and Languidic to the north, the commune of Landévant to the east, the communes of Landaul and Locoal-Mendon to the south- east - separated by the Landévant river, and the communes of Sainte-Hélène to the southwest and the communes to the west Merlevenez and Kervignac . The south-western border to the commune of Sainte-Hélène forms the middle reaches of the Étel, known as the Goah Guillerm , before it merges into its ria at the confluence with the Landévant . The place Nostang is located in the west of the municipality.

history

Menhirs , remains of dolmens and a row of stones can be found from prehistoric times . There are also various relics from Celtic times in Nostang. The foundation of the village goes back to the Romans , who set up a rest area or military post in the northeastern municipality on the Roman road from Vannes to Quimper . The place name Nostang is derived from the time of Breton settlement from the 5th century AD, the rear part of which consists of the Breton stang for pond . The municipality of Nostang was founded in 1790 and initially belonged to the canton of Kervignac before being assigned to the canton of Port-Louis in 1801 .

The community is connected to the east via the D33 to Landévant and northwards via the D158 to Brandérion on the N165 expressway .

Outside of school traffic and on market days in Hennebont , there is no public service to Nostang. The next regional train stations are in Brandérion and Landévant , with long-distance connections in Lorient and Auray . The closest airport is Lorient Bretagne Sud .
