Riantec ( Breton : Rianteg ) is a French municipality with 5622 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . Riantec is part of the Lorient arrondissement and the Hennebont canton . The inhabitants are called Riantécois (es) .
geography
Riantec is located in the southwest of the department about six kilometers southeast of Lorient on the lagoon of the Cape of Lorient (the so-called La Petite Mer de Gavre ). Riantec is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Merlevenez in the east and northeast, Plouhinec in the southeast, Gâvres in the south on the other side of the lagoon, Port-Louis in the west and Locmiquélic in the northwest.
The island of Île-aux-Pins also belongs to the municipality .
history
On the one hand, the dolmen ( Dolmen of Kerporhell ) and the tumuli testify to a Neolithic settlement, on the other hand there is a Roman road in the municipality. The area was therefore settled by humans early on.
