Jules Crozet

Jules (Julien Marie) Crozet (born November 26, 1728 in Port-Louis , Département Morbihan , Brittany , France , † September 24, 1782 in Paris ) was a French navigator and explorer .

He was the namesake for the Crozet Islands , which he discovered for Europe in 1772 under the command of Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne .

Crozet was second in command of the du Fresne expedition, who was killed on the journey from Māori . Crozet took command, met the explorer James Cook in 1775 and briefed him on the discovery of the islands.
