The village church of Saint-Philibert

Saint-Philibert , bret. : Lokfiliberzh (also Sant Filiberzh ) is a French municipality with 1496 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Morbihan in the region of Brittany . The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Lorient and the canton of Auray .

geography

Saint-Philibert is located on the coast of the Morbihan department. The small town of Auray is only about ten kilometers to the north, the city of Vannes about 20 kilometers to the east. Neighboring communities are Crach in the north, Locmariaquer in the east, the Atlantic in the south and La Trinité-sur-Mer .

history

The place has been inhabited since the earliest times. The dolmens of Roh-Vras and Mané-Han are evidence of this. Until 1892 the place belonged to the municipality of Locmariaquer .

Population development

The population stagnated between 1962 and 1968. This was followed by an initial phase of growth until 1975 and another population standstill from 1975 to 1982. Since then, the population has been growing continuously (1982–2012: +58%). The development:
