Burkersdorf is a district of the market town of Küps in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria . It is located on the edge of the Franconian Forest Nature Park , around 1.7 kilometers south of the main town of Küps. Its geography is shaped by the transition from the Franconian Forest to the Obermaintal.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1179 as Burchardesdorf . Later the names Burchardisdorf and Burgkarcztorff appear, which possibly mean Burkhard's village . Until the territorial reform in the 1970s, Burkersdorf belonged to the Lichtenfels district as an independent municipality. In 1972 Burkersdorf was transferred to the district of Kronach. In addition to the parish village of Burkersdorf, parts of the community were the desert areas of Emmersheim, Hinterloh and Löhlein. The wilderness of Vorderloh was lost as a result of a fire.

The factory ditch flows through Burkersdorf, but large parts of it have been laid underground. As a former knightly possession (including that of Redwitz ), Burkersdorf is Lutheran. It belongs to the parish Burkersdorf-Hain, which u. a. Burkersdorf with Ebneth (with castle chapel), Hainweiher and Reuth and Hain with Tiefklein and Weides (religious center with the Trinity Church) belong.

In the past, the inhabitants found their livelihood in addition to building, mainly in basket making. In the 1970s there were two smaller businesses in Burkersdorf (toolmaking, wicker furniture), but at that time most of the Burkersdorf residents were already earning their living in the industrial plants of Küps and Burgkunstadt (86 out-of-town commuters out of 143 employees).

The community's population development has varied over the past two centuries:

year 1800 1850 1900 1939 1946 1968 1972
Residents 260 352 383 326 440 310 295

Two of the former three inns , the Förster , Bayernschanze and Wirtschaft Ehm , have already closed. Village life is mainly determined by associations such as the volunteer fire brigade founded in 1898 and the horticultural association, as well as church engagement. In addition, there are always music events in the TECnet-Center, which is structurally connected to the former Burkersdorf office of Raiffeisenbank Obermain Nord eG.

The construction of the new fire brigade and community center is currently taking place, which is being built in the former parish garden.

Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Marien

St. Mary

The year the St. Mary's Church was built is unknown. The unsecured dates of the laying of the foundation stone are 1154 and 1179. The church and a parish in Burkersdorf were documented in 1350. The core of the choir tower church is late medieval. The current appearance of the nave as a sandstone block with a gable roof goes back to a renovation in 1706. The upper part of the church tower with a pointed spire was rebuilt after a fire in 1834. In earlier times the cemetery was located within the wall surrounding the church, today it is located on the slope between the lower and upper village.

Architectural monuments

A total of seven architectural monuments are listed in the Bavarian Monument List . In addition to the parish church, these include the old rectory.
