Johannisthal is a district of the market Küps in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria with 762 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2007).

geography

Johannisthal is located north of Küps on federal highway 173 and federal highway 303 . The Hochstadt-Marktzeuln – Probstzella railway runs past the village, the next access points are in Küps and neighboring Neuses .

history

Johannisthal was first mentioned in 1725 as "Johannes-Thal" and goes back to a mill built in 1541.

In 1875 Johannisthal had 378 inhabitants in 75 buildings, including 41 residential buildings, and was assigned to the Catholic church and school in Theisenort and the Protestant churches in Küps and Schmölz . In 1900 the rural community of Johannisthal comprised an area of ​​6.82 hectares, 472 inhabitants, 387 of whom were Catholic, and 46 residential buildings. Johannisthal was incorporated into Küps on May 1, 1978.

Churches

There are two churches in Johannisthal. The Catholic St. Marien Church, a branch church of the Theisenort parish , was consecrated on October 18, 1936. The church has had an organ since 1950. The Evangelical St. John's Church was inaugurated on the 1st of Advent in 1960.
