Under our sky is the oldest, still existing documentary series that is produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk and broadcast on BR TV on Sundays . Individual contributions are taken over by all broadcasters affiliated with ARD .

In Under Our Heavens the following topics are presented in loose order:

  • Back then (including childhood in Bavaria )
  • Build and preserve (including topography )
  • Craft and work
  • Cooking stories
  • Music and customs
  • Nature and mountains
  • City, country and people
  • Popular theater and feature film

The first film was broadcast on November 18, 1969: "The Eiger North Face " by Lothar Brandler with his cameraman Gerhard Baur , who has meanwhile made a large number of contributions about the high mountains of Europe and Asia and is considered one of the most renowned mountain filmmakers in the world .

Some well-known filmmakers started their careers with “Under Our Heaven” . Current and former authors include: Percy Adlon , Jo Baier , Sepp Eibl , Gerhard Baur , Sybille Krafft , Dieter Wieland , Alexander Samsonow , Martin Lippl , Paul Enghofer , Steffi Kammermeier , Heio Letzel , Annette Hopfenmüller , Gerald Groß, Meinhard Prill , Matti Bauer, Josef Schwellensattl, Peter Kropf, Klaus Röder, Ludwig Ott, Sylvia von Miller and Corbinian Lippl .

Since its inception, under our sky has stood for high-quality documentaries by Bavarian radio. The opening credits include the folk music piece “ Üba d'Alma, there is Kalma”.
