Gerhard Baur

Gerhard Baur (born February 18, 1947 in Ochsenhausen ) is a German mountaineer , cameraman and mountain filmmaker .

Life

Baur grew up in Friedrichshafen and lives in Sulzberg (Oberallgäu) . At the end of the 1960s he worked as a cameraman with Lothar Brandler in the film "The Eiger North Face ".

He was a member of the 1970 Siegi-Low Memorial expedition to Nanga Parbat and with commonly Reinhold Messner and his younger brother Günther at an altitude of about 7350  m in the Rupal face on Nanga Parbat in Camp V on June 26, 1970 bivouacked . In the early morning Reinhold Messner set out from there alone to the summit. His brother Günther Messner and Gerhard Baur began in the morning to insure the lower part of the Merkl channel , as agreed with the expedition leader Karl Herrligkoffer . There, Günter Messner spontaneously made the decision to follow his brother Reinhold, who had been on the way to the summit for several hours. Gerhard Baur, on the other hand, had to forego conquering the summit due to a severe sore throat and descend to Camp IV ( 6700  m ).

In 2004 Gerhard Baur stayed at Nanga Parbat again to shoot the two-part documentary film "Nanga Parbat - The Challenge". a. the content of the first ascent by Hermann Buhl and the death of the Saxon mountaineer Günter Jung.

In 2007 he made his film Die Höfats - The Unique Mountain .

According to Baur are u. a. named the building pillar on the Great Drusenturm .

  • 1968: First ascent of the southern intersection on the Rote Wand
  • 1968: First ascent of the Great Roof on the north face of the Western Zinne
  • 1975: First ascent of the Oberländerweg through the Aiguille-de-Triolet north face
  • 1975: third ascent of the Kangchenjunga western summit
