Gifting is a part of Wilhelmsthal in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach in Bavaria .

geography

The street and brook village is located in the Franconian Forest in the narrow Teuschnitz valley about ten kilometers north of the district town of Kronach . The Teuschnitz flows into the Kremnitz south of Gifting . The district road KC 3 , from Pressig via Posseck to Wilhelmsthal , leads through the village.

history

Gifting probably originated in the 12th century during the development of the Nortwald by the Langheim monastery . Until 1388 the place was owned by the abbey. Then it became the property of the Bamberg Monastery . Gifting passed through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803 together with the remaining areas of the bishopric in the possession of the Electorate of Bavaria .

In 1842 Gifting was reclassified from the Teuschnitz Regional Court to the Kronach Regional Court. In 1862 the rural community of Gifting was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Kronach . It consisted of three places, the village Gifting and the two solitudes Matthesmühle and Saddle mill. In 1871 the village had 156 inhabitants. The Catholic Church and the Catholic Confessional School were located in Posseck, 1.5 kilometers away. In 1900 the 462 hectare rural parish had 152 residents, 151 of whom were Catholic, and 28 were residential buildings. The ball mill was a new district. The main town had 141 inhabitants. Gifting was a climatic health resort at the beginning of the 20th century . A spa house with apartments for the spa guests was built on the outskirts. The building is used today as a residential and commercial building. In 1925 there were 158 people living in 28 apartment buildings in Gifting, all of them Catholic. The responsible Protestant parish was in Kronach .

In 1950 the community Gifting had 259 inhabitants and the main town 248 inhabitants with 31 residential buildings. In 1970 the village of Gifting had 255 inhabitants and in 1987 the church village had 244 inhabitants and 64 residential buildings with 80 apartments.

In the course of the regional reform in Bavaria , the Gifting community was incorporated into Steinberg on January 1, 1977 . On May 1, 1978 Steinberg was incorporated into Wilhelmsthal.
