history

Eibenberg emerged in the early modern period as a scattered settlement on a cleared island during the planned settlement of the high altitude of the Franconian Forest. The origins lie more in timber and forest management and only to a lesser extent in agriculture. Due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss in 1803, the place, together with the remaining areas of the Bamberg monastery, became the property of the Electorate of Bavaria .

In 1862, the rural community of Eibenberg, created by the municipal edicts, was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Kronach . It consisted of five locations, the village of Eibenberg, the hamlet of Tiefenbach and the three wastelands, Hühnerleithe, Kämmerlein and Sattel.

In 1871 the village had 75 inhabitants. The Catholic Church and the Catholic Denominational School were 2.5 kilometers away in Steinberg. In 1900 the 230 hectare rural community had 132 residents, all Catholic, and 27 residential buildings. The wasteland of Saddle had been broken off. The main town had 65 inhabitants and 16 residential buildings. In 1925, 80 people lived in 13 residential buildings in Eibenberg, all of whom were Catholic. The responsible Protestant parish was in Kronach .

In 1950 the municipality of Eibenberg had 154 inhabitants and the main town 76 inhabitants with 14 residential buildings. In 1970 the village of Eibenberg had 152 inhabitants and 85 inhabitants as well as 22 residential buildings with 23 apartments in 1987.

As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , the municipality of Eibenberg was incorporated into Steinberg on January 1, 1975 . On May 1, 1978, Steinberg was incorporated into Wilhelmsthal.
