The district of Manás is located in the province of Cajatambo in the Lima region in western Peru . The district was established on January 22, 1921. It has an area of ​​283 km². The 2017 census counted 1046 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1206, in 2007 it was 1078. The district administration is located in the 2398  m high village of Manás with 218 inhabitants (as of 2017). Manás is located 23 km southwest of the provincial capital Cajatambo . Besides Manás, the only other larger town is Cahua with 387 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The district of Manás is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southwest of the province of Cajatambo. The Río Gorgor and the Río Pativilca flow along the northern district boundary to the west and drain the area.

The district of Manás borders in the northwest on the districts Acas and Carhuapampa (both in the province of Ocros ), in the northeast on the district Huancapón , in the east on the district Gorgor and in the south on the district Ámbar ( province Huaura ).
