The district of Ámbar , alternative spelling: District Ambar , is located in the province of Huaura in the Lima region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1822. It has an area of ​​941 km². The 2017 census counted 2324 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2978, in 2007 2825. The district administration is located in the 2082  m high village of Ámbar with 487 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ámbar is located 55 km northeast of the provincial capital Huacho .

Geographical location

The Ámbar district is located in the northeast of the Huaura province. It is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The area extends over the catchment area of the Río Ambar, the upper reaches of the Río Supe .

The district Ámbar bordered to the west by the district Supe ( Barranca Province ), in the northwest on the district Cochas ( province of Ocros ), to the north by the districts Manas and Gorgor (both in the province of Cajatambo ), to the east by the districts Caujul , Navan and Cochamarca (all three in the province of Oyón ) and in the south to the districts of Sayán and Huaura .
