The province of Oyón is one of nine provinces in the Lima region on the Pacific coast of Peru. The province has an area of ​​1886.05 km². In the 2017 census, the population was 17,739, 10 years earlier it was 20,642. The administrative center is the small town of the same name, Oyón .

Geographical location

The province of Oyón extends over part of the catchment area of the Río Huaura in the Peruvian Western Cordillera , 130 km north of the state capital Lima . In the south, the province is bounded by the middle reaches of the Río Huaura and its left tributary, the Río Checras . In the east, the watershed , which runs along the Western Cordillera, forms the provincial border. The province of Oyón borders the province of Cajatambo in the north, the provinces of Pasco and Daniel Alcides Carrión (both in the Pasco region ) in the east, and the province of Huaura in the south and west .
