The province of Daniel Alcides Carrión is located in the Pasco region in central Peru . The province was officially established on November 27, 1944. It was named after Daniel Alcides Carrión (1857-1885), a Peruvian medic. It has an area of 1887 km². At the 2017 census, 43,580 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 36,098, in 2007 47,803. The administrative seat is in Yanahuanca .
Geographical location
The province of Daniel Alcides Carrión extends over the Andean highlands , 50 km north of Lake Junín . It has a longitudinal extent in ESE-WNW direction of 45 km and a width of about 30 km. The province extends from the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the west to the Central Cordillera in the east. The area is drained by the Río Huertas , a left tributary of the Río Huallaga , to the northeast.
The province is bordered by the province of Pasco to the south and southeast , the province of Oyón ( Lima region ) to the west, the province of Lauricocha to the northwest, and the province of Ambo (both in the Huánuco region ) to the northeast .
