The district of Yanahuanca is located in the province of Daniel Alcides Carrión in the Pasco region in central Peru . The district was established on January 29, 1944. It has an area of 743 km². The 2017 census counted 12,060 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 14,484, in 2007 14,280. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Yanahuanca, at an altitude of 3184 m , with 5017 inhabitants (as of 2017). There is an archaeological site at Huarautambo.
Geographical location
The district of Yanahuanca is located in the Andean highlands and extends over the west and south-west of the province of Daniel Alcides Carrión. It extends in the west to the main ridge of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Chaupihuaranga, a left tributary of the Río Yanacocha, drains the area to the northeast. The continental watershed runs along the western district and provincial border .
The district of Yanahuanca borders in the west on the district Oyón ( province Oyón ), in the northwest on the district San Miguel de Cauri ( province Lauricocha ), in the north on the district San Pedro de Pillao , in the northeast on the district Vilcabamba , in the east on the District Chacayán and in the south to the District Simón Bolívar ( Province Pasco ).
