The district of Chacayán is located in the province of Daniel Alcides Carrión in the Pasco region in central Peru . The district was established on December 30, 1918. It has an area of ​​160 km². The 2017 census counted 2136 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3082, in 2007 4008. The district administration is located in the 3357  m high village of Chacayán with 792 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chacayán is about 11 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Yanahuanca .

Geographical location

The district of Chacayán is located in the Andean highlands in the central east of the province of Daniel Alcides Carrión. It has a length of 40 km. The Río Chaupihuaranga, the right source river of the Río Huertas , flows north along the western district boundary .

The Chacayán district borders on the Simón Bolívar district ( Pasco province ) to the south, the Yanahuanca , Vilcabamba , Tápuc and Páucar districts to the west , and the Santa Ana de Tusi and Goyllarisquizga districts to the east .
