The province of Pasco is located in the Pasco region of central Peru . The province was officially established on November 27, 1944. It has an area of 4759 km². At the 2017 census, 123,015 people lived in the province. Ten years earlier the population was 150,717. The administrative headquarters are in Cerro de Pasco .
Geographical location
The province of Pasco extends over the Andean highlands north of Lake Junín . It has a lengthwise extension in ESE-WNW direction of 110 km and a width of about 40 km. The province extends in the west to the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Central Cordillera runs through the east of the province . There is the glaciated mountain range of the 5723 m high Huaguruncho .
The province is bordered by the Oxapampa Province to the east, the Junín region to the south, the Lima region to the west, the Daniel Alcides Carrión province to the northwest and the Huánuco region to the north .
Administrative division
The province of Pasco is divided into the following 13 districts. The Chaupimarca district is the seat of the provincial administration.
