The Simón Bolívar District is located in the province of Pasco of Pasco region in central Peru . The district was established on April 15, 1955. It was named after Simón Bolívar , a South American independence fighter. The district has an area of ​​691 km². The 2017 census counted 13,029 residents. In 1993 the population was 15,424, in 2007 13,681. The district administration is located in the 4200  m high village of San Antonio de Rancas with 1252 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Antonio de Rancas is located 6.5 km west of the provincial and regional capital Cerro de Pasco .

Geographical location

The Simón Bolívar district is located in the Andean highlands in the west of the Pasco province. It has a longitudinal extension in east-west direction of 43 km and a maximum width of 30 km. In the west, the district extends to the main ridge of the Peruvian Western Cordillera .

The Simón Bolívar district borders on the Oyón district ( Oyón province ) in the west, the Yanahuanca district ( Daniel Alcides Carrión province ) in the northwest, and the Chacayán and Santa Ana de Tusi districts in the northeast (both in the Daniel Alcides Carrión province), in the east to the districts of San Francisco de Asís de Yarusyacán , Yanacancha , Chaupimarca , Tinyahuarco and Vicco and in the south to the district of Huayllay .
