The Yanacancha district is located in the province of Pasco of Pasco region in central Peru . The district has an area of 1026.87 km². At the 2017 census, 29,192 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 24,400, in 2007 29,596. The district administration is in the 4350 m high altitude city Yanacancha with 25,029 inhabitants (2017). Yanacancha forms the northern part of the metropolitan area of the provincial capital Cerro de Pasco .
Geographical location
The district of Yanacancha is centrally located in the province of Pasco. It is located in the Andean highlands on the western edge of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The longitudinal extension in north-south direction is almost 27 km. The district comprises the western part of the headwaters of the Río Huallaga . This flows through the northeast of the district in a northerly direction.
The district of Yanacancha borders in the southwest with the districts Tinyahuarco , Chaupimarca and Símon Bolívar , in the northeast with the district San Francisco de Asís de Yarusyacán , in the east with the district Ticlacayán and in the extreme southeast with the district Ninacaca .
