The district of Oyón is located in the province of Oyón in the Lima region in western Peru . The district was established on February 5, 1875. It has an area of ​​874 km². At the 2017 census, there were 12,150 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 10,031, in 2007 12,812. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Oyón at an altitude of 3620  m with 8334 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The district of Oyón is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the east of the province of Oyón. Its main ridge with the continental divide runs along the eastern district boundary. The Río Huaura , a tributary of the Pacific Ocean , has its headwaters in the district.

The district of Oyón is bordered to the southwest by the district of Pachangara , to the west by the districts of Andajes , Gorgor and Cajatambo (the last two in the province of Cajatambo ), to the northeast by the district of San Miguel de Cauri ( province of Lauricocha , Huánuco region ), to the east to the district of Yanahuanca ( province of Daniel Alcides Carrión , region of Pasco ), in the southeast to the districts of Simón Bolívar and Huayllay (both in the province of Pasco ) and to the south to the district of Santa Leonor ( province of Huaura ).
