The Huaura Province is one of nine provinces in the Lima administrative region on the Pacific coast of Peru . It extends over an area of 4892.52 km². In the 2017 census, the population was 227,685. Ten years earlier this was 197,384. The administrative seat of the province is Huacho .
Geographical location
The province borders in the north on the province of Barranca and the administrative region Ancash , in the east on the provinces Cajatambo and Oyón and on the administrative region Pasco and in the south on the province Huaral . To the west is the Pacific Ocean .
The province, located about 100 km north of the capital Lima , is centrally traversed by the Río Huaura in a westerly direction. In the north of the province lies the upper river valley of the Río Supe . In the extreme east, the province extends to the watershed , which runs along the Western Cordillera . In the partly desert-like arid coastal region in the west, irrigated agriculture is practiced along the Río Huaura. The population centers are near the coast.
