Huacho is a city in the central west of Peru . It is the capital of the Huaura Province and the administrative seat of the Lima Region . The Huacho is located in the district of the same name .
The city is located on the Pacific coast 30 m above sea level. The state capital Lima is 150 kilometers south of Huacho. The Panamericana highway runs through the city. A few kilometers south of the city is the Lomas de Lachay National Reserve (Spanish: Reserva nacional de Lachay ).
Huacho had 53,998 inhabitants in 2007 and 61,100 in 2017. In 2017, around 160,000 people lived in the Huacho metropolitan area.
Since 1892 a mule- pulled tram has been running in Huacho , which was replaced by an electric train in 1920.
The composer José de Orejón y Aparicio was born in Huacho around 1705 .
