The Huacho district is located in the Huaura province in the north of the Lima region in the central west of Peru . The district has an area of ​​717.02 km². At the 2017 census, 63,142 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 49,725, in 2007 55,442. The administrative seat is the city of Huacho .

Geographical location

The Huacho District is located in the southwest of the Huaura Province. It stretches almost 60 km along the Pacific coast . It is mainly characterized by the desert, arid landscape of the Peruvian coastal plain. The Panamericana highway crosses the area. In the northwest is the metropolitan area of ​​the city of Huacho. In the extreme south of the district is the national reserve Lomas de Lachay (Spanish Reserva nacional de Lachay ).

The district is bordered to the north by the districts of Hualmay and Santa María , to the east by the district of Sayán and to the southeast by the districts of Huaral and Chancay (both in the province of Huaral ).
