Pacific coast in the Végueta district

The district of Végueta is located in the province of Huaura in the north of the Lima region in the central west of Peru . The district was established on August 21, 1920. It has an area of ​​253.94 km². At the 2017 census, there were 25,912 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 12,806, in 2007 18,265. The administrative seat is the small town Végueta with 5144 inhabitants (as of 2017) located in the southwest of the district on the coast at an altitude of 12  m .

Geographical location

The Végueta District is located on the Pacific coast in the northwest of the Huaura Province. It has an approximately 22 km long coastline. The district extends about 15 km inland to the east. There the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise with heights of up to 843  m . The eastern part of the district is barren and desert-like. The urban area of ​​the district is located along the coast. Irrigated agriculture is practiced there. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) crosses the district near the coast.

The Végueta district borders in the north and northeast on the Supe district ( Barranca province ) and in the southeast and south on the Huaura district .
