The district of Supe is located in the province of Barranca in the Lima region in western Peru . It was founded on January 2, 1857. The district of 260.24 km² had 24,318 inhabitants at the 2017 census. In 1993 the population was 17,090, in 2007 it was 20,512. The administrative seat is the city of Supe . The Río Supe flows through the south of the district and flows into the sea. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the lowlands. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs through the district. In the district is Caral , the oldest known urban settlement on the American continent.

Geographical location

The district of Supe is located in the south of the province of Barranca on the Pacific coast about 160 km north-northwest of the state capital Lima . The district has a coastline of 10 km. The district extends up to 40 km inland. The district is bordered to the north by the districts of Supe Puerto , Barranca , Cochas ( province of Ocros ), to the east by the district of Ámbar ( province of Huaura ) and to the south by the districts of Huaura and Végueta (both in the province of Huaura).
