The Pativilca district is located in the Barranca Province in the Lima region of western Peru . It was founded on January 2, 1857. The district of 260.24 km² had 17,431 inhabitants in the 2017 census. In 1993 the population was 13,611, in 2007 17,108. The administrative seat is the city of Pativilca . Desert vegetation dominates the barren hills. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the lowlands. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) crosses the district in a northerly direction.

Geographical location

The district of Pativilca is located in the province of Barranca north of the Río Pativilca . It has a 5.4 km long coastline and extends from the Pacific coast over 30 km inland. The district of Pativilca borders in the northwest with the district Paramonga , in the northeast with the district San Pedro ( province Ocros ), in the east with the district Cochas (also in the province Ocros) and in the south with the district Barranca .
