The province of Ocros is one of 20 provinces in the administrative region of Ancash not far from the Pacific coast of Peru . The province was established on June 19, 1990. It extends over an area of 1949 km². The population was 7039 at the 2017 census. In 1993 it was 7039, in 2007 it was 9196. The administrative seat of the province is Ocros .
Geographical location
The province of Ocros, about 180 km north of the state capital Lima , is in the south of the Ancash region. It extends over a coastal mountain region of the Cordillera Negra , which is a section of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The highest point is the 5117 m high Cerro Llamacpunta . The shortest distance from the province to the Pacific coast is 16 kilometers. The province includes the river valley of the Quebrada Choque , a left tributary of the Río Fortaleza , and the river valley of the Río Ocros , a right tributary of the Río Pativilca . The southern and eastern provincial borders run along the course of the Río Pativilca between river kilometers 98 and 55. Between river kilometers 55 and 27, the provincial border runs about 12 km south of the river. In the west and southwest the province borders on the province of Barranca , in the southeast on the provinces Huaura and Cajatambo and in the north and northeast on the province of Bolognesi .
