The district of Santiago de Chilcas is located in the province of Ocros in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on November 19, 1958. It has an area of ​​88.7 km². The 2017 census counted 445 residents. In 1993 the population was 439, in 2007 423. The district administration is located in the 3657  m high town of Santiago de Chilcas with 316 inhabitants (as of 2017). Santiago de Chilcas is located 5 km southeast of the provincial capital Ocros .

Geographical location

The district of Santiago de Chilcas is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the center of the province of Ocros. The Quebrada Caurajin, which runs along the southern district boundary, drains the area to the Río Ocros.

The district of Santiago de Chilcas borders in the extreme southwest with the district Cochas , in the west and north with the district Ocros , in the extreme northeast with the district San Cristóbal de Raján and in the south with the district Acas .
