The district of Congas is located in the province of Ocros in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on December 13, 1943. It has an area of ​​109 km². The 2017 census counted 1294 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1251, in 2007 1215. The district administration is located in the 3055  m high village of Congas with 671 inhabitants (as of 2017). Congas is 9 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Ocros .

Geographical location

The district of Congas is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the north of the province of Ocros. The area is drained to the west via the Quebrada Choque (in the upper reaches of the Río Congas).

The district of Congas is bordered to the west by the district of Colquioc , to the north by the district of Huayllacayán (both in the province of Bolognesi ), to the east and southeast by the district of Ocros and to the south-west by the district of San Pedro .
