The Huayllacayán district is located in the Bolognesi province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. The district area is 117 km². The 2017 census counted 1336 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1575, in 2007 it was 1276. The district administration is located in the 3256 m high village of Huayllacayán with 354 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayllacayán is located 32 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Chiquián .
Geographical location
The district of Huayllacayán is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the south-west of the Bolognesi province. The Río Purisima, left tributary of the Río Fortaleza , flows through the district in a predominantly western direction.
The district of Huayllacayán borders in the southwest with the district Colquioc , in the northwest with the district Antonio Raymondi , in the northeast with the district Cajacay , in the southeast with the district Ocros and in the south with the district Congas (the latter two districts belong to the province Ocros ).
