The Pacllón district is located in the Bolognesi province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​211 km². The 2017 census counted 972 residents. In 1993 the population was 1165, in 2007 it was 1522. The district administration is located in the 3292  m high village of Pacllón with 485 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pacllón is located 13 km southeast of the provincial capital Chiquián . Another place in the district is Llamac with 378 inhabitants.

Geographical location

The Pacllón district is located on the western flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southeast of the Bolognesi province. The main ridge of the Cordillera Huayhuash runs along the eastern district boundary. In the extreme southeast rises the 6635  m high mountain Yerupaja . At the foot of the mountain lies the Laguna Jahuacocha lake, whose outflow is the Achin River. This flows through the district in a westerly direction to the Río Pativilca . This flows south along the western district boundary. The Río Llamac, right tributary of the Río Achin, borders the district to the north.

The Pacllón district is bordered by the Chiquián district to the west, the Huasta district to the north, the Queropalca and Jesús districts to the east (both in the Lauricocha province ), and the Copa districts ( Cajatambo province ), Mangas and La Primavera to the south .
