The Canis district is located in the Bolognesi province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on January 29, 1965. The district area is 20.7 km². The 2017 census counted 328 residents. In 1993 the population was 214, in 2007 it was 691. The district administration is located in the 2460 m high village of Canis with 316 inhabitants (as of 2017). Canis is located 21 km south of the provincial capital Chiquián .
Geographical location
The Canis district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the south of the Bolognesi province. The district is located on the right bank of the south-flowing Río Pativilca .
The Canis district is bordered by the Cajamarquilla District ( Ocros Province ) to the south and west, the San Miguel de Corpanqui and Abelardo Pardo Lezameta districts to the north and the La Primavera and Mangas districts to the east .
