The Antonio Raymondi District is located in the Bolognesi Province in the Ancash Region in western Peru . The district was established on April 24, 1962. The district was named after the Italian naturalist Antonio Raimondi (1826–1890).
The district area is 122 km². The 2017 census counted 1046 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1361, in 2007 it was 1193. The district administration is located in the 2162 m high village of Raquia with 356 inhabitants (status 2017). Raquia is located 35 km west of the provincial capital Chiquián .
Geographical location
The Antonio Raymondi district is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the north-west of the Bolognesi province. The Río Fortaleza flows along the northern and western district boundaries and drains the area to the southwest.
The Antonio Raymondi district is bordered to the west by the district Llacllín , on the north by the districts Huayllapampa and Marca (the three aforementioned districts belonging to the province of Recuay ), to the east by the district Cajacay , the south by the district Huayllacayán and on the southwest by the district Colquioc .
