The Marca district is located in the Recuay province in the Ancash region in central western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 183 km². The 2017 census counted 1696 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1201, in 2007 it was 1054. The administrative seat of the district is the 2664 m high village of Marca with 1248 inhabitants (as of 2017). Marca is 40 km south of the provincial capital Recuay .
Geographical location
The Marca district is located in the central south of the Recuay province. It is located on the western flank of the Cordillera Negra . The north-eastern district boundary runs along the watershed of the mountain range. The area is drained to the southwest towards the Río Fortaleza , which flows west along the southern district boundary. The Río Marca flows through the central part of the district to the southwest. The district is bounded by the Quebrada Tancarpo and Río Huayllapampa rivers to the east and west.
Marca district is bordered to the west by the district Huayllapampa , in the northeast on the district Catac , on the east by the district Pampas Chico , in the southeast of the district Cajacay and the south by the district Antonio Raymondi (the last two districts are located in the province of Bolognesi ).
