The Pararín district is located in the Recuay Province in the Ancash region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on July 25, 1857. It has an area of 259 km². The 2017 census counted 1603 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1048, in 2007 it was 1251. The administrative seat of the district is the 3383 m high village Pararín with 418 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pararín is 42 km southwest of the provincial capital Recuay .
Geographical location
The Pararín district is located in the extreme southwest of the Recuay province. It is located in the west of the Cordillera Negra . Along the northern district boundary, the Río Cotaparaco, a tributary of the Río Huarmey , flows to the west, along the southern district boundary, the Río Fortaleza flows to the southwest.
The district of Pararín borders in the west on the district Huarmey ( province Huarmey ), in the north on the district Cochapeti (also in the province Huarmey), in the extreme northeast on the districts Cotaparaco and Tapacocha , in the east on the district Llacllín and in the south on the Colquioc District ( Bolognesi Province ).
