The district of Cochapeti is located in the province of Huarmey in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on March 5, 1936. It has an area of 98.5 km². The 2017 census counted 817 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1147, in 2007 it was 879. The district administration is located in the 3498 m high village of Cochapeti with 247 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cochapeti is 56 km east of the provincial capital Huarmey .
Geographical location
The district of Cochapeti is located in the east of the province of Huarmey. The district is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . It is bordered in the north by the Río Malvas and its left tributary Río Quehuap and in the south by the Río Cotaparaco.
The district of Cochapeti borders in the west on the district Huarmey , in the north on the district Malvas , in the east on the district Cotaparaco and in the south on the district Pararín (the latter two districts are in the province of Recuay ).
