The Huarmey District is located in the Huarmey Province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 2911 km². The 2017 census counted 25,590 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 17,807, in 2007 21,666. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Huarmey, 7 m high near the coast, with 21,141 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Huarmey District is located in the southwest of the Huarmey Province. The district is on the Pacific coast . The foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera rise in the east of the district . The lower reaches of the Río Huarmey crosses the district in a west-southwest direction. The national road 1N runs in the hinterland of the coast in a north-south direction.
The Huarmey district borders on the Culebras district to the north, the Coris ( Aija province ), Huayán , Malvas and Cochapeti districts to the northeast, the Pararín ( Recuay province ) and Colquioc ( Bolognesi province ) districts to the east and the south-east and south to the Paramonga district ( Barranca province ).
