Cécile Rol-Tanguy
Cécile Rol-Tanguy (born April 10, 1919 in Royan as Cécile Le Bihan; † May 8, 2020 in Monteaux ) was a French resistance fighter , communist activist and feminist.
Life
Cécile Le Bihan was the daughter of an electrician who had been a member of the Communist Party (PCF) since 1920 . She completed an apprenticeship as a stenographer. In the 1930s she met her future husband, Henri Rol-Tanguy , who was secretary of the Paris Metalworkers Union at the time. She too became a member of the Metalworkers' Union and the PCF. When he traveled to Spain to take part in the International Brigades in the Spanish Civil War, Cécile took over the "war sponsorship" for him. After he returned injured, they were married in April 1939.
After the German occupation of France by the Wehrmacht , Henri went underground and she was his liaison woman. She gave him news, but also revolvers and fuses. She took part in the liberation of Paris in 1944 on the staff of the French Forces Inside (FFI) . On August 19, 1944, she and her husband wrote the appeal for the uprising of the Parisians. On August 26, 1944, Rol-Tanguy was the only woman at the reception organized by General Charles de Gaulle to thank the leaders of the Paris Resistance.
After the liberation, Cécile continued her commitment. She was a contemporary witness in schools until she was old. She died at the age of 101 on May 8, 2020, Liberation Day .
The couple had four children. Her son Jean Rol-Tanguy was a journalist and long-time correspondent for Humanité in the GDR. Her daughter Claire Rol-Tanguy (born 1946) is the general secretary of the French association Friends of the Fighters in Republican Spain (ACER).
