Edward Lohmeyer

Edward Lohmeyer (born April 2, 1847 in Rinteln , † September 23, 1927 in Kassel ) was a German specialist in German and librarianship.

Life

Lohmeyer studied law and philology and graduated in 1871 with the state examination. He was then a test candidate at the Luisenstädtisches Gymnasium in Berlin and from 1872 to 1874 a teacher at the high school in Uelzen . Lohmeyer lived in Switzerland from 1874 to 1876. In 1876 he became an intern at the State Library in Kassel , where he was promoted to chief librarian until 1895 and became director in 1900. In 1882 he received his doctorate in Halle . Lohmeyer campaigned for a spelling reform based on the phonetic principle, published numerous papers on German spelling and published the magazine "Reform", which dealt with questions of the spelling reform. Lohmeyer retired in 1912.
