The Huayán District is located in the Huarmey Province in the Ancash Region in western Peru . The district was established on December 21, 1907. It has an area of 112 km². The 2017 census counted 973 residents. In 1993 the population was 1148, in 2007 it was 1085. The district administration is located in the 2706 m high village of Huayán with 399 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huayán is located 53 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Huarmey .
Geographical location
The Huayán District is located in the east of the Huarmey Province. The district is located in the west of the Peruvian Western Cordillera . The Río Aija, the upper reaches of the Río Huarmey , flows west along the northwestern district boundary.
The district of Huayán borders in the southwest and in the west on the district Huarmey , in the north on the districts Coris and Succha (both in the province Aija ) and in the south on the district Malvas .
